EUPE
Kemajuan Sdn. Bhd. was founded by Dato’ Beh Heng Seong
and Dato’ Tajudin bin Haji Hashim in 1986 to respond to
the Kedah State government’s call to the private sector
to undertake the development of low cost houses during the recession
of the mid-1980’s. This result was the development of
Taman Ria. Comprising 252 acres of freehold land and over 3,000
units of houses, it was then one of the largest housing schemes
in the northern region of Malaysia. The resounding success of
the project, in which the first 700 units of houses, including
the infrastructure, were completed in a year led to visits by
state dignitaries including the Prime Minister of Malaysia,
Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 17 August 1987. Today, Taman
Ria is one of the most established townships in Sungai Petani,
with a privately managed market, food stalls and all amenities
just a stone’s throw away. This was then followed by Taman
Ria Jaya as well as Cinta
Sayang Golf and Country Resort and Cinta Sayang Hotel in
1988. EUPE Golf Management Bhd and EUPE Golf Recreation and
Tour Sdn Bhd were set up to manage the Resort and the Hotel
respectively.
Related developments included the setting up of management companies
to manage the facilities provided in the townships such as markets,
eating outlets and shops. A construction arm (under Riacon Sdn
Bhd) was set up to undertake the Group’s construction
works. The Group has come a long way since then, having developed
over 18,000 units of properties. Pursuant to a restructuring
exercise in 1996, these 13 companies were acquired by EUPE Corporation
Berhad, which was subsequently listed on the property sector
of the main board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 24 July
1997 with a total paid-up capital of RM128 million.
